ARE YOU PUTTING GOD FIRST?
In examining this topic, I want to begin by exploring the idea of “first” so as to answer the question “why is it necessary to put some things before others?”. I will therefore refer to this concept as the importance of positioning or structure.
As human beings, we find ourselves in what is often referred to as “the cycle of life”. This terminology brings to mind the notion of REPETITION, which surrounds our existence. For example, we run one basic routine throughout everyday of our life, and eventually, our days turn to weeks, our weeks turn to months, our months turn to years, and our years evolve into a lifetime. REPETITION therefore gives birth to ROUTINE, which in turn establishes PATTERNS or STRUCTURE. Such structure provides the basis of our understanding of the importance of POSITIONING, that is, putting things of greater importance ahead of things of lesser importance or “putting first things first”.
Having therefore tied the idea of “first” to the concept of STRUCTURE, let us now examine what is the STRUCTURE of your life, so as to answer the question “what are you putting ahead of what?” or “is your life in proper STRUCTURE?” In doing so, I want you to think of your life as a house.
A house must be put together progressively and in a definite order. In other words, there must be a gradual increase in its construction, as the various parts are fitted together to complete the whole. More importantly though, every aspect or part of the house must be erected upon the assembly of other parts. For example, walls can only be built upon the assembly of the house’s foundation, whereas windows and door frames can only be set upon the assembly of the house’s walls etc.
Therefore, “is your life being built in accordance with proper STRUCTURE?” “are the walls of your life being assembled upon your foundation?” Our knowledge and belief in the Word of God forms the foundation upon which the walls of our lives are to be assembled. However, when God is not given first place in our lives, we can be likened to a house whose foundation is being assembled upon its walls or whose walls are being assembled upon its windows and door frames. Either way, the STRUCTURE of our lives needs to be addressed.
God would never leave us, neither would he ever forsake us! He is with us unto the end of the way. “The race is not for the swift, neither the battle for the strong, but for those who would endure to the end” Let us not be hasty in building, but let us build slowly and purposefully ensuring that the walls of our lives are being fitted together or assembled according to the proper STRUCTURE. Remember the old saying “Rome was not built in one day, but when it was finished, it was a beautiful city”
May God bless you as set about re-aligning your STRUCTURE. Put God FIRST for that is the only place in our house that he belongs.
